来自美国加州的Sugarcult乐队成立于1998年，《Palm Trees and Power Lines》这张专辑发行于2004年4月13日，专辑名称的由来是乐队成员居住地方的风景，视野中的天际线总是被棕榈树和繁复的电线占据。
乐队成员目前的阵容为Tim Pagnotta（主唱&节奏吉他）、 Airin Older（贝斯&伴唱）、Marko DeSantis（主音吉他）和Kenny Livingston（鼓手）。这张专辑是他们在经历了长时间忙碌的行程之后的作品，Marko说，这十二首歌记录了他们过去两年的生活和感悟。
作为singer/guitarist/songwriter的Tim Pagnotta写下了这首counting stars，较之乐队其他快节奏的歌曲不同，这首歌节奏缓慢但不拖沓，字里行间透露出主人公的后悔之意，也标志着Tim Pagnotta作为唱作人身份的日趋成熟，他也毫不在意向公众展示自己的另一面。这首歌虽然没有“Memory”和“She's the Blade”这么火，但这种暗黑颓废情绪化的调调还是带动了每一位听者，你能深切地感受到写这首歌的人那种纠结挣扎的内心情感。“做了许多错事，但我本意并不是真的想伤害你（虽然这种话听起来更混蛋- -）只能继续假装自己很ok... 现在才明白生命如此短暂而我又是这么渺小的存在...”
